Background //
For centuries hot drinks have been at the heart of communities, from the bustling coffeehouses of London in the 17th century to the rituals of the Samurai with matcha tea. Hot water is essential. Offering tea is a common courtesy in many cultures around the world. In our increasingly active/on the go lives, taking the time to stop is something that we all to easily give up in pursuit of other things. Ondo is designed to help us press pause, sit back, observe and enjoy our surroundings, wherever we may be.
Brief //
Heat one cup of water at a time, to a temperature appropriate for making a hot drink. The user must be able to use the device anywhere and must be able to heat more than one cup.
Development //
Ondo has been designed to be sleek and fit a modern aesthetic, with unobtrusive and subtle styling. The flat side is a nod towards the handles on many western mugs and tea cups. A block model prototype was produced to truly evaluate scale and feel of the product. At approximately the same size as a thermos flask, Ondo is compact.
To control Ondo, it’s really easy. Ondo will connect to your smart phone via Bluetooth, where a specifically designed app will allow you to control the temperature, set temperature units, display battery level status and charging.
Alternatively, Ondo will work without a phone too, just touch the flat panel to wake the device and slide up or down to select temperature. The temperature level is displayed via LEDs hidden under a secret till lit panel.
